Basel Uraiqat is an architect and artist. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering from the University of Jordan, and studied fine arts at Slade School of Fine Arts – UCL. He worked for a number of years in architectural practice in Amman and undergone training in Warsaw – Poland before creating Atelier Uraiqat with partner Basma Abdallah. In addition to his practical experience, Basel has participated in intensive international courses in environmental and digital design in London and Shanghai. He is specialized in digital design methods and seeks to integrate architecture and art.
In addition to his work in architecture, Basel is a painter and has had his first exhibition in Amman at the French Cultural Centre in 2008. He aims at exploring the topography of the human figure through an expressionist study of light, colour, and emotion. He also represents natural landscapes through a surrealist vision that distorts colour, scale, and form in order to discover hidden aspects of the perception of natural environments.
